CCI Chairperson Ravneet Kaur leads BRICS Competition meet; Joint statement on fair competition in renewable energy markets adopted

Udaipur (Rajasthan), August 10, 2026: The Competition Commission of India (CCI), under India’s BRICS Chairmanship 2026, hosted the Meeting of Heads of BRICS Competition Authorities in Udaipur, Rajasthan, on August 8, 2026.
The meeting brought together heads and senior representatives of competition authorities from BRICS member countries to strengthen cooperation on promoting fair competition and addressing emerging challenges in competition law and policy.

In her inaugural address, Smt. Ravneet Kaur, Chairperson, Competition Commission of India (CCI), emphasised the shared responsibility of BRICS competition authorities to preserve and promote competitive markets that support efficiency, consumer welfare, innovation and fair opportunities for businesses.
Highlighting the growing cross-border nature of digital markets and emerging technologies, Ravneet Kaur stressed the importance of sustained cooperation and knowledge-sharing among BRICS competition authorities to develop effective and future-ready approaches to competition enforcement.
She also highlighted the global shift towards renewable energy and sustainability, noting that greater collaboration among BRICS competition authorities could help foster fair and competitive renewable energy markets while supporting sustainable growth and energy security.
The CCI Chairperson emphasised that competition law interventions must remain principled, evidence-based and firmly anchored in the core objectives of competition law amid evolving market dynamics and emerging enforcement challenges.
During the meeting, the heads of BRICS competition authorities exchanged views on recent developments in competition law and policy in their respective jurisdictions. Discussions covered major enforcement initiatives, institutional developments and emerging competition challenges in domestic markets.
As part of India’s BRICS Chairship, the CCI also led a collaborative BRICS study titled “Emerging Competition Landscape in the Renewable Energy Sector in BRICS.” The study examined evolving competition dynamics in renewable energy markets across BRICS jurisdictions and identified potential areas for future cooperation. Its key findings were presented during the meeting.
The BRICS competition authorities adopted a Joint Statement titled “Strengthening Cooperation to Promote Fair Competition, including in Renewable Energy Markets.” The statement reflects their shared commitment to developing competitive, innovative, resilient and sustainable renewable energy markets and enhancing knowledge-sharing on emerging competition issues linked to the global energy transition.
Brazil’s Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) also briefed participants on preparations for the 10th BRICS International Competition Conference, which is scheduled to be held in Brazil in 2027.
The meeting concluded with the heads of BRICS competition authorities reaffirming their commitment to continued cooperation, dialogue and knowledge-sharing to strengthen competition enforcement and address emerging challenges in increasingly interconnected markets.
