Ferozepur Rail Division boosts rail freight; Door-to-Door service secures trader trust
Ferozepur, December 10, 2025: Under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager Shri Sanjiv Kumar, the Business Development Unit (BDU) team of Firozpur Division consistently organised meetings with rice traders. During these interactions, traders expressed the need for a 'door-to-door' service directly from their factories to the destination station.
The Railways, through joint efforts with CONCOR and logistic service providers, successfully gained the trust of the rice traders. Consequently, rice produced in the Amritsar-Tarn Taran rice-producing belts is now transported by rail, offering a secure, cost-effective, timely, and door-to-door service.
The successful shift back to rail transport—after a four-year gap—from road transport in the Amritsar-Tarn Taran rice-producing areas, driven by the active participation of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager/Freight Shri Manu Garg, marks a notable achievement for the Firozpur Division.
Representatives from the Rice Mill Association, including its President Shri Ashok Sethi, along with renowned institutions such as M/s AMDD Foods, Sappal Tech, Lal Qila, and Daawat, attended these meetings.
Following this initiative, M/s AMDD Foods initially requested two containers. The loading of these containers was completed at the M/s AMDD Foods factory in Tarn Taran, and they were first dispatched from Ahmedgarh Station. These containers are scheduled to be sent to Chennai via rail. Furthermore, a request for 8 additional containers has been received from M/S AMDD Foods.
Traders highlighted that sending goods by road not only takes longer but also involves uncertainty regarding transport cost, risk, and the availability of trucks. In contrast, rail transport is proving to be more reliable, cost-effective, and time-bound.
The 'door-to-door' service provided by the Railways is greatly benefiting businesses in the rice-producing area, leading to significant savings compared to road transport. Moreover, the safety and monitoring system provided by the Railways ensures that the goods reach their destination in completely secure conditions.
These efforts by the Firozpur Division have not only increased railway revenue but have also won the confidence of the trading community. Following these meetings, there is a strong possibility of receiving demands from other areas, including Ludhiana, in the near future. This achievement signals an increase in rail traffic and sends a positive message for the railway's business development.
