Modi Government’s Assault on Punjab’s Rights Shameful; Fight to Protect Punjab’s Water Will Persist: Dr. Baljit Kaur
Punjab’s Voice Will Always Resonate in Defense of Its Water, Farmers, and Workers: Dr. Baljit Kaur
Chandigarh, May 1, 2025 – Punjab’s Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister, Dr. Baljit Kaur, has strongly condemned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Central Government’s attempt to deprive Punjab of its rightful share of river waters, calling it a direct affront to democracy and federalism.
Dr. Kaur stressed that water is the lifeblood of Punjab, with the state's farmers and laborers depending entirely on it for agriculture and their livelihoods.
Speaking on International Labour Day, Dr. Kaur criticized the Centre’s move to divert Punjab’s water to other states, calling it an outright betrayal and a backstab to the people of Punjab.
“This is not the first time Punjab has been subjected to such injustice. The Modi Government has consistently adopted an anti-Punjab stance, disregarding the rightful demands and sentiments of our people,” Dr. Kaur said.
She emphasized that as an agrarian state, Punjab cannot afford to lose even a drop of its water. “The farmers and laborers of Punjab have always raised their voices against injustice and will never tolerate such exploitation,” she added.
Dr. Kaur further declared that this decision is not just an attack on Punjab but an assault on the farmers and laborers of the entire nation. “We will vehemently oppose this treacherous policy of the Central Government. The fight for Punjab’s water and rights will continue relentlessly at every platform,” she concluded.
