Police crack murder case, arrest 4; extortion attack accused held
Ferozepur, October 8, 2026: Under the "Operation Gangster Te Vaar" campaign, Ferozepur Police have solved a murder case with four arrests and traced the accused in an extortion-linked attack, arresting one of them.
Briefing the media, SSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu said the district police, acting on directions of the Punjab Government and the DGP, are taking strong action to crush anti-social and criminal elements.
On September 19, around 7:48 AM, Mukesh Kumar Chopra, son of Baldev Raj, a resident of Makhu, was attacked by anti-social elements. He had earlier received extortion threats in the name of Harry Boxer. A case was registered at Makhu police station against Harry Boxer and unknown assailants.
Special teams of the SHO Makhu and CIA Zira traced the accused using secret inputs and technical leads. Three have been named: Phool Singh of Sonipat (Haryana), Pawan Yadav of Uttar Pradesh, and Ankit Rajput of Bihar. Pawan Yadav was arrested from Bihar on October 4 and is in police custody. Raids are on to nab his associates.
On September 20, Davinder Singh, son of Rasal Singh, a resident of Deene Ke, was shot dead at village Pandhari under Makhu police station. On the statement of his mother, Gurmeet Kaur, a case was registered. The family initially suspected the in-laws of a girl's family over a dispute, but investigation found no solid evidence against them. The SHO Makhu and CIA Zira teams were then tasked with finding the truth.
Scientific and technical investigation revealed that on August 31, during the annual Jor Mela at Gurdwara Sri Guru Hargobind Singh Patshahi Chhevin in Pandhari, Jashanpreet Singh, son of Gurnam Singh, had quarrelled with Lovepreet Singh alias Labbi, son of Baj Singh, and with Davinder Singh.
Nursing the grudge, Jashanpreet and his associates Shera Singh Fauji, Sukhbir Singh Fauji, Jagjit Singh alias Jaggi, Kalamjit Singh and Malkit Singh alias Kitu planned on September 20 to "teach a lesson" to Labbi and Davinder, and carried out reconnaissance. On learning that the two were near a barber's shop on the Pandhari bypass, they attacked them. Sukhbir Singh fired two shots from a country-made pistol, which hit Davinder Singh and killed him.
The accused were subsequently named in the case through DDR No. 30 dated October 3. Four main accused, Jashanpreet Singh, Jagjit Singh alias Jaggi, Kalamjit Singh and Malkit Singh alias Kitu, have been arrested on different dates. Raids are continuing to arrest the remaining two, Shera Singh Fauji and Sukhbir Singh Fauji.
