RPF cracks down on unnecessary chain pulling; registers 102 cases, arrests 51 in Oct
Ferozepur, November 4, 2026: Unnecessary alarm chain pulling continues to disrupt train operations, delay passengers and derail travel schedules. Stepping up its crackdown on the offence, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Ferozepur Division, registered 102 cases and arrested 51 persons in October under Section 141 of the Railways Act, 1989.
Railway officials said that every instance of needless chain pulling holds up trains, inconveniences passengers and affects the punctuality of other services. Such disruptions can leave hundreds of passengers stranded or delay their onward journeys.
To curb the misuse of alarm chains, Ferozepur Division has intensified passenger awareness campaigns at railway stations and aboard trains. Through public announcements and regular outreach, railway officials are educating passengers about the consequences of unnecessary chain pulling.
The Railways has made it clear that alarm chains must be operated only in genuine emergencies. Section 141 of the Railways Act, 1989, makes the unauthorised use of this facility a punishable offence.
The RPF has warned against the misuse of alarm chains and urged passengers to follow railway rules. Officials stressed that strict enforcement and public cooperation are essential to prevent avoidable delays and keep train services running safely and on schedule.
