Patti/Tarn Taran, August 10, 2026: A gunfight broke out between police and a suspected criminal during a checking operation near Sarhali Sui in Tarn Taran district on Monday. The suspect, identified as Inder alias Ajay, was injured in police firing and subsequently taken into custody.
According to Tarn Taran SSP Surinder Lamba, a joint team of the CIA staff and Sarhali police station had set up a special checkpoint near Sarhali Sui as part of a security operation.
During the checking, police noticed a man approaching on a motorcycle and signalled him to stop. According to the police, the suspect allegedly opened fire at the police team instead of stopping.
Police personnel retaliated in self-defence, during which the suspect sustained two bullet injuries to his leg. He fell to the ground following the firing and was immediately apprehended by the police.
The injured suspect was identified as Inder alias Ajay. Police recovered an illegal pistol and the motorcycle from his possession. He was taken to the Civil Hospital in Tarn Taran for medical treatment.
The SSP said the accused has several serious criminal cases registered against him and was wanted by police in connection with multiple cases.
Police have launched a detailed investigation to determine the suspect’s alleged links with any criminal gang and establish the purpose behind his presence in the area.
