Vigilance Bureau arrests ASI taking Rs 10,000 bribe

Chandigarh, May 6, 2025: Aiming at eradicating corruption in the state under the zero tolerance policy of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab Government, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Harbinder Singh (No 115/Moga), posted at Police Station Samalpur in Moga district, red-handed while he was demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.
An official spokesperson of the VB disclosed that during the ongoing drive against corruption, the said accused was arrested based on a complaint filed by a resident of Kotkapura town in Faridkot district.
He further added that the complainant has approached the VB and informed that he had got registered an FIR related to his abduction at the said police station and the aforementioned police personnel was the investigation officer (IO) in this case. The complainant further alleged that the said IO had demanded a bribe from him to proceed with the action against the accused persons.
The spokesperson further stated that after verifying the complaint the VB team has laid a trap during which said police official was apprehended red handed while he was taking Rs 10000 bribe from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
In this regard a case has been registered against the accused at VB police station Ferozepur range.
The accused would be produced before the competent court tomorrow and further investigation into this case was under progress, he said.
