Prisoners released during pandemic in Ferozepur, asked to return to jail
Ferozepur, February 12, 2021: The Punjab government has decided not to further extend the parole of convicted prisoners and as per the guidelines of Additional Director General of Police Jails, Punjab, Chandigarh, the male prisoners who were released on parole due to the Covid-19 epidemic, will now have to report back at District Jail Barnala while the female prisoners at Sub-Jail Malerkotla. This information was given by the Superintendent Central Jail Ferozepur, Arvinderpal Singh Bhatti.
Added here, during March 2020, in two phases, 64 and 80 prisoners and under-trials were released from jail on parole by making safe arrangements to drop them safely at their home by transporting them in buses after completing the required formalities.
Giving details in this regard, he said that the male prisoners who were released on parole should report to the jail on the date of their return.
He said that the male prisoners who were sent on parole from January 1, 2020 to January 31, 2020 should report on February 17, 2021. Similarly, from 1st February 2020 to 29th February 2020 on 27th February 2021, 1st March to 28th March 2020 on 9th March 2021, 29th March to 2nd April on 19th March, 3rd April to 8th April 2020 on 29th March 2021, 9th April to 19th April 2020 on 8th April, 2021, 20th April to 12th May 2020 on 18th April, 13th May to 30th June 2020 on 28th April and 1st July to 31st December 2020 on 8th May at District Jail Barnala.
In addition to those male prisoners over the age of 60 or male detainees suffering from chronic illnesses will report on May 18, 2021.
Similarly, women prisoners will have to report to Malerkotla sub-jail. Prisoner women who were released on parole between January 1 and April 30, 2020 will appear on February 17, 2021, and women prisoners who are released between May 1 and December 31, 2020, or who are over 60 years of age or with a terminal illness, will have to make their appearance on February 27, 2021.
Superintendent Jail, Arvinderpal Singh Bhatti said that all the male and female prisoners should ensure their attendance at the concerned jail on the fixed date as per the date of their parole. He said that all the inmates should get their corona test done before entering the jail and make sure to bring the corona test report with them. He said that if any prisoner fails in reporting back to the jail, he himself will be responsible.
