Government of province of Alberta, Canada, has nominated Amanjot Singh Pannu, a prominent Punjabi Canadian as a senator of the University of Calgary

Batala, July 13, 2024 - The Government of the province of Alberta, Canada, has nominated Amanjot Singh Pannu, a prominent Punjabi Canadian as a senator of the University of Calgary. This university is the 8th largest universities in Canada. This nomination has been made by the Minister of Technical Education of Alberta, Rajan Sawhney and is from July 1, 2024 for the next three years. It is worth mentioning that out of the present total 62 different members, Pannu is 2nd turban-wearing and 3rd senator of Punjabi origin in the Senate. Thanking Minister Sawhney and Premier Daniel Smith for his nomination, Pannu said that while they will emphasize on establishing better coordination of the university with the local community, they will also focus on representing the public interests of Calgary by coordinating with the universities of Punjab. It is worth noting that the University of Calgary has about 36000 students studying in it. Amanjot Singh Pannu advised that the role of the senate is to draw plans related to the future of these students & promoting the university at local, national and international levels is also one of the objectives of the senators. Pannu said that he will try to make new and effective efforts to connect Calgary's Punjabi-origin youth with university education, as well as the university administration to engage with the city's Punjabi community and leading Punjabi institutions, elected representatives and NGOs. It is also worth noting that Pannu is currently the Director of Operations of Canada's Shadow Minister of Finance Jasraj Singh Halan. He has also been working in Calgary's Punjabi media sector for years and has a unique identity in the Canadian Punjabi community. His background is from village Sarfkot in Tehsil Dera Baba Nanak of Gurdaspur district which is very close to Fatehgarh Churian.
