Chandigarh, October 14, 2024: Partap Singh Bajwa, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Punjab has written a letter to the State Election Commision requesting the postponement of Panchayat elections in Punjab for at least three weeks.
The Panchayat Elections in Punjab are scheduled for October 15.
"The chaotic and violent events that unfolded during the nomination filing process, especially on the last day, have not only violated the sanctity of the electoral process but also have cast a shadow on the fairness and inclusiveness of these elections. Given the widespread reports of clashes, administrative mishandling, and the deprivation of numerous candidates for their rights to participate, I urge the Election Commission to consider postponing the Panchayat elections by at least three weeks to allow for a more organized and equitable process," stated Partap Singh Bajwa to SEC.
