Over 5,000 join Mega Anti-Drug Rally in Ferozepur led by MLA Bhullar & SDM Divya P
NGOs, public take pledge to stay away from drugs
Ferozepur, April 22, 2025: In a major step towards eradicating drug abuse from Punjab, a mega awareness rally was organised today under the state government's flagship campaign ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, initiated by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. The rally was flagged off by Ferozepur Urban MLA Ranbir Singh Bhullar and SDM Divya P from Cantonment Stadium, Ferozepur, and concluded at Gurdwara Saragarhi Sahib, after passing through various city locations.
The event, held under the directives of Deputy Commissioner Deeptishikha Sharma, aimed to intensify awareness across the district. Before the rally commenced, students and participants pledged to stay away from drugs and support the campaign. SSP Ferozepur Bhupinder Singh Sidhu was also present on the occasion.
Speaking at the event, MLA Bhullar emphasised that the Punjab government is taking strict action against drug trafficking while simultaneously intensifying awareness campaigns throughout the district. He acknowledged the active role of the district administration and related departments, which has led to an increase in the number of individuals quitting drug use. He urged anyone willing to overcome addiction to reach out to district authorities, de-addiction centres, or outpatient clinics for structured support.
Nearly 5,000 participants, including students, panchayat members, sarpanches, representatives of NGOs, administrative officials, youth clubs, and residents, enthusiastically took part in the rally. Carrying banners and placards, participants raised slogans against drug abuse to spread awareness at the grassroots level.
SDM Divya P informed that students from institutions, over 15 government and private schools, joined the rally. She added that all participating students will be awarded certificates of appreciation.
Various departments are also actively contributing to the state’s campaign through regular camps, awareness sessions, street plays, speeches, songs, paintings, and sports competitions aimed at sensitising the youth.
Prominent officials present included DEO (Sec) Munila Arora, DPRO Gurdeep Singh Maan, District Sports Officer Rupinder Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer Gurpreet Singh Sidhu, Deputy DEOs Dr. Satinder Singh and Komal Arora, LDM Geeta Mehta, Education Coordinator Raj Bahadur Singh Gill, Vocational Coordinator Ashwinder Singh, Akash Kumar, Gagan Mata, and Red Cross representatives Sunil Sharma, Himanshu Thakkar, and Manpreet Singh. Representatives of various educational institutions, youth organisations, and NGOs also marked their presence.
The rally concluded with SDM Divya P extending thanks to all participants for their active involvement in the campaign.
