New Delhi, May 12, 2025 – Air Marshal Awadhesh Kumar Bharti on Monday justified India’s ongoing military operations under ‘Operation Sindoor’ as a necessary response to continued provocations from Pakistan, invoking a verse from the Ramcharitmanas to drive home the message of strength and deterrence.
Addressing a press conference, Air Marshal Bharti quoted renowned poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar’s rendition of Tulsidas’s epic:
“Vinay na maanat jaladh jad, gaye teen din beeti.
Bole Ram sakop tab, bhay binu hoye na preeti.”
(“When the ocean, despite humble entreaties, did not relent even after three days, Lord Ram said in anger – without fear, there can be no love.”)
The quote, he said, encapsulates the philosophy behind India’s calibrated military response. “Persistent provocation without consequence only emboldens the aggressor. Our response is measured but resolute,” Bharti stated.
The verse had recently featured in a presentation by the armed forces, symbolizing India’s shifting posture from restraint to firm action.Refusing to divulge operational specifics, Bharti emphasized that the strikes were not an act of aggression but a necessary assertion of national security.
“India has always believed in peace, but peace must be protected through strength,” he added.
‘Operation Sindoor’ continues to garner attention both for its tactical execution and its messaging, as military leaders turn to cultural idioms to communicate strategic intent.
