Punjab Local Government Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh on Tuesday announced a major infrastructure revamp for Sultanpur Lodhi, with 23 urban development projects worth ₹240 crore underway as part of the Mann government's vision to modernize and uplift the historic city.
Chairing a review meeting with senior officials from the state headquarters and district administration, Dr. Ravjot Singh said the comprehensive Smart City initiative will transform Sultanpur Lodhi into a modern, efficient, and livable urban centre with ultra-modern civic amenities, improved infrastructure, and enhanced connectivity.
“Once completed, this ambitious project will redefine the city’s landscape and significantly raise the quality of life for its residents,” said Dr. Singh, adding that the Mann-led Punjab government is committed to ensuring timely delivery of all works under execution.
The Minister revealed that six projects worth ₹29.57 crore have already been completed, including the installation of water supply and sewerage systems, construction of a 4 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Jabbowal, solar energy installations on government buildings, and the development of smart primary schools to improve educational infrastructure.
He further informed that 12 more projects worth ₹106.71 crore are currently in progress. These include the establishment of 1 MLD STP at Urban Estate, the creation of smart schools for boys and girls, conservation of the historic Kila Sarai, and the construction of four-lane smart roads to improve connectivity—stretching 6 km from Dadwindi to Sultanpur Lodhi and 17.4 km from Kapurthala-Sultanpur Lodhi to Fattu Dhinga.
Other key components of the infrastructure overhaul include the strengthening of fire safety systems, installation of rooftop solar panels at Jabbowal STP and the local bus stand, and the construction of two overhead storage reservoirs (OHSRs).

Dr. Singh said these infrastructure investments will not only address long-standing urban challenges but also position Sultanpur Lodhi as a model smart city that blends historical heritage with modern amenities.
