Trump’s Tariff policy disrupted global trade; Time to build a self-reliant India: Dharmapal Bansal
SJM Ferozepur pushes ‘Swadeshi’ agenda; urges youth to lead economic self-reliance
Ferozepur, August 7, 2025: The Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM), Ferozepur unit, held an important press conference today to discuss global trade imbalances, India's economic challenges, and the urgent need to strengthen the Swadeshi (self-reliance) movement in the country.
Dharmapal Bansal, District Palak of SJM, addressed the media and strongly criticized former U.S. President Donald Trump’s protectionist trade policies and tariff strategies, stating that they have created significant imbalances in the global trade order.
“Trump’s tariff-centric ‘America First’ policy has directly harmed domestic industries in countries like India. We can no longer rely solely on global markets. It is time to take bold steps toward Swadeshi production and true economic self-reliance,” Bansal said.
Highlighting the youth unemployment crisis, he emphasized the need to connect India’s youth with the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan (Self-Reliant India Mission). He encouraged youth to explore local entrepreneurship, startups, agriculture-based industries, handicrafts, and digital commerce to strengthen the nation’s economic foundation.
Bansal asserted that the Swadeshi movement is not merely a slogan, but a symbol of India's economic and cultural pride. He shared that the Manch plans to conduct workshops across the district in the coming months to train youth in adopting, producing, and promoting ‘Made in India’ products.
“Our goal is no longer just to boycott foreign goods,” Bansal said, “but to make Indian youth the center of a Swadeshi economy. Every youth should become a job creator, not just a job seeker.”
He further stated that government initiatives such as Startup India, MUDRA Yojana, and Vocal for Local will only succeed when the people mentally embrace the ideology of Swadeshi.
Expressing concern over the continued dominance of Chinese and American products in Indian markets, Bansal urged citizens to treat every purchase as a contribution to nation-building and to prioritize Indian-made goods.
The press conference concluded with the announcement of an upcoming event titled “Swadeshi Yuva Samagam”, to be organized by the SJM Ferozepur unit. The event aims to inspire youth to utilize local resources to become economically self-reliant.
