Chandigarh, September 14, 2025 – The Punjab government has issued formal instructions to all districts regarding special girdawari (crop loss assessment) for farmers affected by recent floods and the compensation to be provided. The orders were circulated on September 12 by the Revenue Department.
According to the notification, farmers who have suffered 26% to 75% crop loss will receive compensation of ₹10,000 per acre, while those with 76% to 100% damage will be given ₹20,000 per acre. However, the notification does not specify any compensation for farmers who have suffered crop loss of less than 25%.
The notification also sets a timeline for completing special girdawari and submitting reports to the government. Detailed instructions have been passed down to officials and staff of the Revenue Department, including patwaris.
In cases where crop loss exceeds 75%, a five-member committee will be constituted in each district to oversee compensation. The committee will be chaired by the Deputy Commissioner, with the Chief Agriculture Officer, District Revenue Officer, concerned SDM, and Agriculture Development Officer as members.
These committees will prepare lists of villages where more than 75% of crops have been destroyed, either in the entire village or in a large portion of the cultivated land. Special girdawari in such villages will be completed within a week by patwaris.
