CBI Officially Announces Arrest of DIG Harcharan Bhullar in ₹8 Lakh Bribery Case; Huge Cash and Firearms Seized

Chandigarh, October 16, 2025:
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) this evening officially announced the arrest of DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar ( Without disclosing his name ), a 2009-batch IPS officer currently posted as DIG, Ropar Range, Punjab, in a bribery case involving ₹8 lakh. A private individual has also been arrested in connection with the case.

According to the official statement, the CBI registered a case on October 16, 2025, against the accused officer and his associate for allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹8 lakh and recurring monthly illegal gratification through a middleman. The bribe was allegedly sought to “settle” an FIR registered against the complainant and to ensure that no further coercive or adverse police action was taken against his business.
CBI teams laid a trap and caught the private individual red-handed while demanding and accepting ₹8 lakh from the complainant at Sector 21, Chandigarh. During the trap operation, a controlled call was made to the DIG, who acknowledged the payment and instructed both the middleman and the complainant to come to his office. Subsequently, the CBI team apprehended the public servant from his office and arrested both accused in Chandigarh..
Searches at premises linked to DIG Bhullar in Punjab and Chandigarh led to the recovery of large quantities of cash and valuables, including:

Cash of approximately ₹5 crore (counting still in progress)

1.5 kg of gold jewellery

Documents related to immovable properties in Punjab

Keys of two luxury cars (Mercedes and Audi)

22 luxury watches

Locker keys
-
40 bottles of imported liquor

Firearms: one double-barrel gun, one pistol, one revolver, one airgun, along with ammunition
From the middleman’s premises, ₹21 lakh in cash was recovered.
Both accused have been arrested and will be produced before the designated court on October 17, 2025. Searches and further investigation are underway.
