Raikot / Surrey, December 31, 2025:
A significant historical work documenting one of the most sacred relics associated with Dasmesh Pita Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji—the Pavitar Ganga Sagar—will be formally released on January 2, 2026, at 8:30 am during the Raikot Jorr Mela at Gurdwara Sri Tahliana Sahib, Raikot. SGPC President Advocate HS Dhami will also grace the occasion.
The book, titled “Dasmesh Pita Bakhshish: Pavitar Ganga Sagar – Suchi Sewa Sambhal”, has been authored by eminent writer and historian Prof. Gurdev Singh Sidhu. The book has been published by Punjabi Lok Virasat Academy with preface written by prominent writer and poet Prof Gurbhajan Singh Gill. It meticulously documents the historic visit of Guru Gobind Singh Ji to Raikot, the exemplary sewa rendered by Rai Kalha and his family, and the spiritual and historical significance of Guru Sahib’s Pavitar Nishani—the Ganga Sagar.
The Ganga Sagar is a traditional 17th-century copper vessel, revered as a sacred relic that belonged to Guru Gobind Singh Ji. It is presently in the custodianship of Rai Aziz Ullah Khan, former parliamentarian of Pakistan and a direct descendant of Rai Kalha, who continues to preserve this historic trust with devotion and responsibility.
Historical accounts record that before departing Raikot, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, deeply moved by the courage, devotion, and hospitality of Rai Kalha, a Muslim chieftain who risked his own life and that of his family to serve Guru Sahib during a most difficult period, bestowed upon him the Ganga Sagar, along with a sword and a Rehal (wooden stand for holy scriptures), as personal gifts and tokens of affection and gratitude.
Rai Aziz Ullah Khan and his son Rai Mohammad Ali Khan, now settled in Canada, have conveyed their heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Gurdev Singh Sidhu for documenting this sacred history and Prof Gurbhajan Gill and Punjabi Lok Virasat Academy for publishing this book. Both of them have extended warm congratulations to the Sikh Sangat on the occasion of the Raikot Jorr Mela.
The release of this book is expected to further strengthen awareness of this shared legacy of faith, courage, mutual respect, and human values that transcend religious boundaries, as exemplified by Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
