Ferozepur, March 20, 2026: An awareness seminar and a special oral health screening camp were organised at Civil Hospital, in connection with World Oral Health Day under the directions of Dr Rajeev Prashar, Civil Surgeon.
Deputy Director, Dental Health, Dr. Pankaj Gupta. District Immunization Officer Dr. Meenakshi Dhingra attended the seminar as a special guest.
Addressing the seminar, dental specialist Dr. Pankaj Gupta said that the main aim of observing World Oral Health Day is to spread awareness among people across the globe about the importance of oral hygiene and to motivate them to make every possible effort to keep their mouth healthy. He said that along with awareness camps at government health institutions across Ferozepur district, oral disease screening camps have also been organized. He added that if there is any infection in the mouth, even the food chewed through it may get contaminated, increasing the risk of several diseases in the human body.
During the seminar, District Mass Media Officer Sanjeev Sharma and Deputy Mass Media Officer Neha Bhandari said that brushing at least twice a day is essential. They advised people to consume fresh and easily digestible food such as fresh fruits, green leafy vegetables and whole grains. They also stressed that chewing food properly helps release essential enzymes in the mouth, which support good digestion. People were advised to avoid excessive sweets and processed food and to get their teeth and mouth examined at least once a year so that any problem can be detected and treated in time.
On the occasion, B.Sc. Nursing students of Genesis Institute of Nursing — Supanpreet Kaur, Jasleen Kaur and Armeen Kaur Sandhu — also addressed patients and their family members at the hospital.
Referring to the campaign slogan, “Happy Mouth, Happy Life,” they said that proper care of teeth and mouth is the foundation of good health. They urged people to pay special attention to oral hygiene and explained that bleeding gums, bad breath, yellowing or blackening of teeth, cavities, sensitivity to hot and cold, and toothache are common dental problems. However, timely treatment can help prevent serious oral diseases. They also shared detailed information about the prevention and treatment of dental diseases and awareness regarding oral cancer.
