HC directs Punjab Govt to ensure security for Harbhajan Singh, family

Chandigarh, May 1, 2026: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the Punjab government to ensure adequate protection for cricketer-turned-Member of Parliament Harbhajan Singh and his family during their stay in the state.
Justice Jagmohan Bansal issued notice on a petition filed by Singh, in which he alleged that the Punjab Police recently withdrew his security cover without conducting any fresh threat assessment.
While listing the matter for hearing on May 12, the Court instructed the authorities to ensure that no harm comes to the petitioner or his family members.
“In the meantime, the respondent shall ensure that no physical injury is caused to the petitioner or his family members while they are in the State of Punjab,” the Court observed.
