Chandigarh, May 5, 2026: Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday addressed party MLAs from Punjab, alleging that democratic institutions across the country were under threat and accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of undermining electoral processes.
Speaking at a party meeting, Kejriwal claimed that recent elections in several states, including West Bengal, Bihar, Maharashtra and Delhi, reflected what he described as a pattern of democratic decline. He questioned the fairness of electoral processes, particularly citing developments in West Bengal over the past few months.
The AAP chief asserted that while the BJP appeared to be winning elections across multiple states, this trend would not continue in Punjab. He expressed confidence that the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections would mark a turning point.
Kejriwal went on to make a strong political prediction, stating that the outcome of the Punjab polls could have wider national implications. He said he believed the current Central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi would face a setback after the Punjab elections.
“The people of Punjab will bring about this change,” he told party legislators, adding that the upcoming state polls could prove decisive for the BJP’s political trajectory.
