Chandigarh Gets Power Boost: New 20 MVA transformer installed at Industrial Area Phase-I

Chandigarh, May 22 2026: In a move aimed at improving electricity supply and reducing power cuts during peak demand, Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL) has installed a new 20 MVA power transformer at the 66/11 kV grid sub-station in Industrial Area Phase-I.
The new transformer is expected to make power supply more stable and reliable for several nearby areas including Industrial Area Phase-I, Sector 29 and 30, GMCH Sector 32, Air Force Station Behlana, Hallo Majra, Daria, Raipur Khurd, and Makhan Majra.
Officials said the upgrade will help reduce pressure on the existing electricity network, especially during high-demand periods like summer, ensuring fewer disruptions and smoother supply for households, hospitals, and industries.
The transformer will also serve as backup support during emergencies, helping restore supply faster in case of faults or overloads.
Representatives from the industries association were also present during the commissioning of the new facility.
With this addition, CPDL has now installed four major 20 MVA transformers across Chandigarh since taking over electricity distribution, as part of its ongoing effort to strengthen the city’s power infrastructure.
