Railway urges passengers to adhere to luggage limits for Safe and comfortable travel
Ferozepur, June 8, 2026: To ensure passenger convenience and safe travel, Indian Railways has prescribed rules regarding the carriage of luggage during train journeys. Under the railway regulations, a maximum luggage allowance has been fixed for passengers travelling in different classes of coaches. Passengers carrying baggage beyond the permissible limit may be liable to pay a penalty as per the rules.
Railways has advised passengers carrying excess luggage to book their belongings in the luggage van instead of carrying them inside passenger coaches.
The permissible luggage limits for different travel classes are - First AC: 70 kg, Second AC: 50 kg, Third AC: 40 kg, Sleeper Class: 40 kg and Second Class: 35 kg.
The Ferozepur Division of Northern Railway has appealed to all passengers to carry luggage only within the prescribed limits. Adherence to these guidelines will help ensure a safe, smooth, and comfortable journey not only for themselves but also for fellow passengers.
Basant Kumar, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Ferozepur, emphasized that compliance with luggage regulations contributes significantly to passenger safety and convenience during rail travel.
