Ferozepur, June 10, 2026: The Ferozepur Division of Northern Railway observed the International Level Crossing Awareness Day on June 9, with the objective of enhancing safety at railway level crossings and creating awareness among the public about the risks associated with their improper use.
The awareness campaign was conducted under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager Sanjeev Kumar and Senior Divisional Safety Officer Rohit Verma. As part of the initiative, the Safety Organisation of the Ferozepur Division launched extensive awareness drives at various level crossings across the division.
During the campaign, gatekeepers, road users, vehicle drivers and members of the general public were educated about safe practices at railway crossings. Pamphlets were distributed and counseling sessions were conducted to emphasize the importance of adhering to safety rules. Citizens were informed that crossing railway tracks by passing underneath closed gates is a punishable offence and were advised to remain patient and cross only after the gates are fully opened.
The public was also advised against using earphones, talking on mobile phones, or listening to music while crossing railway tracks, as such distractions can lead to serious accidents.
Officials and employees of the Safety Department carried out awareness activities at level crossings located across different railway sections of the division, reaching a total of 7,451 citizens and road vehicle users.
In addition, safety seminars were organised at Patti and Lohian Khas railway stations, where around 122 gatemen and track-men were counselled and sensitised regarding operational safety procedures and best practices.
The initiative reflects Northern Railway’s continued commitment to ensuring the safety of railway passengers, road users and railway staff through sustained awareness and education campaigns.
