Chandigarh, June 15, 2026: Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu once again failed to appear before the Scheduled Caste Commission in connection with allegations of using caste-based remarks against police personnel, prompting sharp criticism from the Commission and a fresh summons for June 24.
The hearing was held in Chandigarh on June 15, 2026, where the Minister’s lawyer appeared on his behalf and sought exemption, citing prior official commitments and meetings. However, the explanation did not satisfy the Commission.
Taking strong exception, SC Commission Chairperson Jasvir Singh Garhi reportedly rebuked the lawyer, questioning why the same date had earlier been requested by Bittu himself during the previous hearing on June 4. He also raised concerns over repeated delays, suggesting either poor planning or deliberate attempts to prolong the proceedings.
The case pertains to serious allegations that Ravneet Singh Bittu used caste-linked derogatory remarks against police personnel. The Commission has been examining the matter closely, emphasizing that no individual is above the law and that any irresponsible conduct will not be tolerated.
With the Minister absent once again, the Commission has now directed him to appear personally on June 24. The next hearing will determine whether Bittu complies with the summons or seeks further exemption, as scrutiny over the case continues to intensify.
