Chandigarh, June 19, 2026: Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar-Surjit) President Giani Harpreet Singh on Friday announced the formation of an eight-member coordination committee aimed at strengthening Panthic unity and initiating dialogue with other political parties, farmer organisations and Sikh groups to build a common platform for Punjab.
In a written statement, Giani Harpreet Singh said the move was in line with the spirit of the December 2 hukamnamas, which had called upon Panthic forces to unite under one Nishan Sahib.
He said four Panthic organisations had recently come together in Jalandhar as part of the unification effort. These include Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar-Surjit), the International Panthic Dal led by Jasbir Singh Rode, the United Akali Dal headed by Gurdeep Singh Bathinda, and the Begampura Khalsa Raj Party led by Gurinder Singh Bajwa.
To expand the unity initiative, an eight-member coordination committee has been constituted comprising Gurpartap Singh Wadala, Sucha Singh Chhotepur, Boota Singh Ransinh, Gurinder Singh Bajwa, Jatinder Singh Isru, Sant Charanjit Singh Jassowal, Bhai Mohkam Singh and Parampal Singh Sabhra.
Giani Harpreet Singh said the committee would soon begin consultations with farmer unions, Panthic organisations and political parties to explore the possibility of creating a broad-based common platform centered on Punjab’s issues and interests.
The party president also announced the appointment of new district observers to strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level.
Gobind Singh Longowal and Harvinder Singh Gagarpur have been appointed observers for the Barnala-Mansa district, while Hardev Singh Hamid has been assigned responsibility for the Muktsar-Fazilka district.
Similarly, Gurbhej Singh Sidhu and Jathedar Charan Singh have been appointed observers for the Ferozepur-Faridkot district.
Giani Harpreet Singh said the appointments would help accelerate the party's outreach efforts and strengthen coordination among Panthic forces across Punjab.
