Breaking: Mohali SIR Clash: FIR registered against Councillor, eight others

S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali), July 3, 2026: Punjab Police have registered an FIR against a sitting municipal councillor and eight others in connection with a clash between supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in Kumbhra village of Mohali.
The FIR was registered by Phase-8 Police Station following a complaint lodged by local BJP leader Hardeep Singh, who alleged that he was assaulted and sustained injuries during the incident.
According to the police, the case has been registered against nine named individuals, including the Kumbhra councillor, in connection with the alleged assault and disturbance that occurred during the electoral roll revision exercise.
The clash reportedly broke out during the SIR process, leading to a confrontation between BJP and AAP supporters.
Police said further investigation into the incident is underway. No official response from the accused or the Aam Aadmi Party was available at the time of filing this report.
