RPF cracks down on unnecessary chain pulling, 111 cases registered in Ferozepur Rail Division
Ferozepur, July 6, 2026: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has intensified its drive against the misuse of alarm chains in trains, registering 111 cases under Section 141 of the Railways Act, 1989, in the Ferozepur Rail Division during June. As part of the enforcement action, 77 offenders were arrested.
Indian Railways, regarded as the country's lifeline, transports millions of passengers safely to their destinations every day. To ensure passenger safety, every railway coach is equipped with an alarm chain that is intended to be used only in genuine emergency situations.
The Ferozepur Rail Division has been conducting continuous awareness campaigns through railway stations, trains, and public announcement systems to educate passengers about the proper use of the alarm chain and the consequences of its misuse. Despite these efforts, some irresponsible individuals continue to pull the alarm chain without any valid reason or for personal convenience, disrupting train operations.
Officials said that unnecessary chain pulling adversely affects train punctuality, causes inconvenience to thousands of passengers, and results in financial losses to the railways. Under Section 141 of the Railways Act, 1989, pulling the alarm chain without sufficient and reasonable cause is a punishable offence that may attract a fine, imprisonment, or both.
The Ferozepur Rail Division has appealed to passengers to use the alarm chain strictly in genuine emergencies. It emphasized that avoiding unnecessary chain pulling is essential for ensuring the smooth operation of train services, maintaining punctuality, and safeguarding the interests of fellow passengers. The division reiterated its commitment to passenger safety, security, and uninterrupted railway operations.
