Jalandhar (Punjab), July 6, 2026: Punjab Congress leader and Bholath MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira on Monday strongly condemned the removal of the Punjabi film Satluj, starring Diljit Dosanjh, from the ZEE5 streaming platform in India, days after its release.
In a statement, Khaira said the film is based on the life of human rights activist Prof. Jaswant Singh Khalra and portrays the events surrounding his 1995 abduction and killing.
He claimed that the incidents depicted in the film are based on facts that have been upheld by the Supreme Court while convicting the police officials involved in the case.
"I strongly condemn the removal of Satluj. The film is based on true facts validated by the Hon'ble Supreme Court. I am saddened that the same police state continues to operate unabashedly in Punjab under the Bhagwant Mann government," Khaira said.
The Congress leader urged the Government of India to restore the film on the ZEE5 platform, arguing that the public should have access to narratives based on historical events.
"Suppressing such important narratives only raises more questions," he added.
