Breaking: National Crime Records Bureau gets new Director

New Delhi, July 6, 2026: The Central government has approved the appointment of senior IPS officer Amit Garg as the Director of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Monday, Garg, a 1993-batch Andhra Pradesh cadre IPS officer, will serve as Director, NCRB, in Level-16 of the Pay Matrix from the date he assumes charge until October 31, 2027, the date of his superannuation, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Garg will take over from Alok Ranjan, a 1991-batch Madhya Pradesh cadre IPS officer, who retired as Director of the NCRB on June 30, 2026.
Before his new appointment, Amit Garg was serving as the Director of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad. He was appointed as the Academy's regular Director on September 21, 2024, after initially holding the post as an additional charge following the retirement of A. Seem Rajan on February 28, 2023.
