Chandigarh, July 22, 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chandigarh on Wednesday staged a protest and gheraoed the Congress Bhawan in Sector 35, condemning the Congress' reported attempt to gherao the residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Led by BJP Chandigarh President Jatinder Pal Malhotra, party workers marched from the BJP state office, Kamalam in Sector 33, to the Congress Bhawan, raising slogans against the Congress and extending support to Prime Minister Modi.
Addressing the gathering, Malhotra accused the Congress and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi of attempting to politicise the NEET-UG 2026 issue and misleading students for political gains. He alleged that the move to protest outside the Prime Minister's residence reflected the party's "frustration" and was against democratic values.
Former BJP Chandigarh President Sanjay Tandon, Chandigarh Mayor Saurabh Joshi, and other party leaders also addressed the gathering, criticising the Congress for what they termed "negative politics" and asserting that democratic protests should not cross constitutional limits.
Several BJP office-bearers, district and mandal presidents, morcha leaders, and party workers participated in the demonstration. The protesters raised slogans against the Congress and reaffirmed their support for Prime Minister Modi.
