93 chain pulling cases registered, 34 arrested in Ferozepur Railway Division during July
Ferozepur, July 24, 2026: The Ferozepur Division of Northern Railway has warned passengers against the misuse of the emergency alarm chain, stating that unnecessary chain pulling is a punishable offence under the Indian Railways Act.
Every railway coach is equipped with an emergency alarm chain to stop the train only in genuine emergencies. To discourage misuse, transparent safety covers and warning stickers have been installed on alarm chain handles in coaches.
According to Section 141 of the Indian Railways Act, pulling the alarm chain without a valid reason is punishable with a fine of up to ₹1,000, imprisonment for up to one year, or both.
Railway officials said that during July 2026, a total of 93 cases of unnecessary chain pulling were registered in the Ferozepur Division, leading to the arrest of 34 persons.
The Ferozepur Division has appealed to passengers to use the alarm chain only in genuine emergency situations. It stated that unnecessary chain pulling disrupts train operations and causes inconvenience to thousands of passengers.
The division reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of passengers while maintaining smooth and uninterrupted train operations.
