Chandigarh, August 24, 2026: Former Justice Ranjit Singh on Monday said he had not yet received the legal notice reportedly sent by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s wife, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, but asserted that he had evidence to support the matter he had raised.
Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh, Justice Ranjit Singh said, “I have not received any notice till date.” He added that he was not afraid of receiving a legal notice and would respond through the appropriate legal process if required.
He said that if the matter reached the court, he would present his case and contest it through the judicial process. He maintained that he was prepared to face the matter legally if a notice was served on him.
Justice Ranjit Singh also clarified that he was not making any fresh allegations on his own, but was placing before the public information arising from a court decision or matters that had come to light.
The remarks come amid a controversy following allegations of bribery involving the Chief Minister’s wife. Dr. Gurpreet Kaur had reportedly announced that she had sent a legal notice to former Justice Ranjit Singh, and a copy of the notice has since circulated in the media.
Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought an Action Taken Report from the Punjab Chief Secretary and Director General of Police in connection with the matter.
The NHRC has not, however, given any finding so far establishing whether the allegations are true or false. The exact dates and route of the visit are yet to be announced.
