Amritsar (Punjab), September 25, 2026: Three suspected shooters linked to the Keshav Shivala gang were injured in an exchange of fire with police in the Chheharta area of Amritsar on Friday, police said.
The encounter took place near Thanda Road, where police recovered five pistols and 20 live cartridges from the suspects. Police said the accused were allegedly preparing to carry out a major criminal operation.
Amritsar Police Commissioner Harmanbir Singh Gill said police first arrested a man identified as Vishal during a naka based on specific intelligence. A .30-bore Glock pistol was allegedly recovered from his possession.
During questioning, Vishal reportedly told police that some of his associates were hiding in bushes near Thanda Road and were allegedly planning a major crime.
Following the information, several police teams reached the area and cordoned it off. Police said the suspects were asked to surrender through a public-address system but allegedly opened fire at the police party.
Police returned fire, during which three suspects sustained bullet injuries to their legs. They were taken to a hospital for treatment.
The injured suspects have been identified as Chinda Pehalwan, a resident of Ferozepur with previous criminal cases, Shivam alias Shiva of Faridkot and Lovkesh of Amritsar, according to the police commissioner. Another person, identified as Rajwinder, has also been linked to the group, police said. Police claimed that a total of five pistols were recovered, including two Glock pistols and three Beretta pistols, along with 20 live cartridges.
According to Commissioner Gill, the suspects had allegedly identified a person as a target. Police have taken security measures around the individual as part of what the commissioner described as “target hardening”.
Police teams are also conducting raids in Ferozepur and Faridkot, with two gazetted officers of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) rank supervising the operations.
Further investigation and action are underway based on information obtained during the questioning of the suspects, police said.
