Breaking: AAP questions alleged use of SGPC resources in ‘Bahrain Woman’ case, seeks answers from Dhami, Sukhbir Badal

Amritsar (Punjab), September 29, 2026: The controversy surrounding the allegations made by a Bahrain-based woman has taken a political turn, with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) spokesperson Baltej Pannu questioning the alleged use of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) resources in connection with the matter.
Addressing a press conference, Pannu alleged that after the woman was brought to Punjab, she was provided various facilities through resources associated with the SGPC.
Pannu claimed that bank records showed a transfer of Rs 1 lakh from a Punjab National Bank account to the woman's bank account. He also alleged that an SGPC vehicle and driver were made available to her and that accommodation at an SGPC sarai was provided.
Pannu sought an explanation from SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami and Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal over the alleged use of SGPC resources and demanded clarity on who authorised the arrangements.
The allegations come amid an ongoing controversy over the woman's allegations concerning an incident linked to Sri Anandpur Sahib. The SGPC has already constituted a four-member committee to investigate the matter and said it would examine all aspects before submitting its report.
The committee, constituted by SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami, includes Baldev Singh Kaimpur, Gurmeet Singh Boo, Bhai Gurbakhsh Singh Khalsa and Bibi Gurinder Kaur Bholuwala, with SGPC secretary Balwinder Singh Kahalanw as coordinator. The committee was given 15 days to submit its report.
Dhami has previously said that he had no information about where the woman came from or who brought her to Punjab. He also said that he had met her once or twice but that she had not informed him about any alleged misconduct.
The SGPC has said that the allegations would be examined and that answers to questions raised by the Sikh community would be provided after the inquiry report.
The controversy has also led to political protests. On September 28, the Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) staged a protest outside Dhami's residence in Hoshiarpur and demanded his resignation over the matter.
The latest allegations made by Pannu are claims by the AAP leader and have not been independently established. The SGPC's inquiry is expected to provide further clarity on the alleged financial transactions and use of committee resources.
