Chandigarh, October 16, 2026: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has hit back at Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his remarks on Punjab’s drug problem, gangsterism and the murder of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota in Mansa.
Reacting to Shah’s post on X, Kejriwal accused the BJP of pursuing double standards on the drug menace and alleged that its policies and political alliances had contributed to the problem in Punjab.
In his post, Kejriwal referred to the alleged movement of drugs through Adani’s port, accused the BJP of providing protection to gangsters in Sabarmati Jail, and alleged that the party had colluded with the Shiromani Akali Dal during its 2007–2017 rule in Punjab over the drug issue.
Kejriwal also accused the BJP of joining hands with the Akali Dal again and alleged that the party wanted to exploit Punjab’s resources and institutions, including the state’s river waters, Panjab University and Chandigarh.
“Punjab will never allow this to happen,” Kejriwal said in his post, warning against what he described as attempts to undermine the state’s interests.
His reaction came after Shah said the Union Home Ministry would seek a response from the Punjab government over the murder of Jhota and an incident in Dirba in which a father allegedly consumed poison under pressure.
Shah had raised concerns over the drug trade, organised crime and gangsterism in Punjab, calling for an impartial investigation into allegations of political patronage to criminals.
