Sri Anandpur Sahib (Punjab), October 24, 2026: The Punjab Mining Department has arrested one person and seized a Poklain machine and a tipper during a late-night raid against alleged illegal mining in Bhallan village of Nangal tehsil, Sri Anandpur Sahib, during the intervening night of October 23 and 24.
Punjab Mines and Geology Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal said the department had intensified surveillance and enforcement to curb illegal mining and protect the state’s natural resources.
The raid was conducted to prevent unauthorised mineral extraction and the illegal use of heavy machinery. One person allegedly involved in the activity was apprehended, while the machinery and vehicle used at the site were seized.
A case has been registered under Sections 4(1) and 21(1) of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957. Further legal proceedings will follow as per law.
Goyal said the department would continue taking action wherever violations were detected and would not allow unauthorised mining activities to go unchecked in Punjab.
