Shivhar/Patna (Bihar), October 26, 2026: IAS officer Pratibha Rani, the District Magistrate of Shivhar in Bihar, has drawn attention for her hands-on approach to administration, including personally measuring roads with a tape to check development work.
A 2018-batch IAS officer, Rani has reportedly focused on monitoring infrastructure projects, improving education in government schools and ensuring the availability of doctors in hospitals. Her approach emphasises on-the-ground inspections and accountability in public services.
Rani took charge as Shivhar District Magistrate in December 2025. Before this, she served in administrative positions including Deputy Development Commissioner in Bhagalpur and Bettiah, and Sub-Divisional Magistrate in Jamui.
Originally from Ranchi, Jharkhand, Rani studied at DAV School before pursuing a computer science engineering degree from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra. She subsequently cleared the Union Public Service Commission examination to join the Indian Administrative Service.
Her husband, Swarn Prabhat, is a 2018-batch Indian Police Service officer who, according to the supplied report, is posted as Superintendent of Police in Motihari.
Rani has also been associated with flood-management and infrastructure initiatives in Bihar. The supplied report refers to embankment construction in the Belwa area and efforts to link two rivers, though the specific project details require independent verification.
In her message to young women, Rani has emphasised that girls are capable of succeeding in every field and need opportunities to demonstrate their abilities.
