Chandigarh, October 26, 2026: Rajbir Singh Ghuman, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday and alleged that central investigative agencies were being misused under political pressure.
Speaking to the media after questioning, Ghuman said the investigators had asked him the same questions as in previous rounds and claimed that no new facts had emerged in the case. He said the CBI had summoned him again for questioning on October 27.
Ghuman alleged that agencies such as the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), established to investigate matters in the national interest, were increasingly being misused. He claimed that investigators were working under political pressure and attempting to find a weak link despite what he described as a lack of substantial evidence in the case.
Responding to allegations that he was avoiding the investigation, Ghuman said some people had spread rumours that he intended to flee. He appeared to be referring to claims attributed to Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia.
“I had Canadian PR. If I had to run away, I had ample time and opportunity to leave the country, but I chose to face the investigation,” Ghuman said.
He maintained that he was prepared to cooperate with the investigating agency and rejected the allegations against him.
The CBI has called Ghuman for another round of questioning on October 27. Further developments in the case are awaited.
