Amritsar (Punjab), November 2, 2026: A day after resigning from the Punjab Legislative Assembly, former Amritsar MLA and ex-IPS officer Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh thanked the people of his constituency for their support, asserting that “Punjab First” would remain his guiding principle in the next phase of his public life.
In a message addressed to the people of Amritsar, Singh said he would remain indebted to them for their love and respect throughout his life. He said his future efforts would focus on making Punjab a progressive and leading state by collectively addressing challenges such as drug abuse, extortion, gangsterism and corruption.
Emphasising that he had no personal interests beyond the welfare of Punjab, he called upon people to rise above what he described as street-level and ribbon-cutting politics and work towards addressing the state's larger problems.
Claims to have completed 90% of his work as MLA
Reflecting on his tenure as a legislator, Singh claimed that he had completed 90% of the work expected of an MLA.
He clarified that the responsibilities of councillors, mayors and Members of Parliament were different from those of an MLA. He added that constituency-wise details of the development works undertaken during his tenure were available in newspapers and on his Facebook page.
Describing his biggest achievement, Singh said he had worked to eliminate the “Mai-Baap” culture in politics and treated the public as his source of inspiration.
Says he consistently raised Amritsar's issues in Assembly
Singh said he had consistently raised issues concerning Amritsar residents in the Punjab Assembly, including water supply, sewerage, Circuit House, Company Bagh, the polluted drain, Guru Nanak Dev University, Government Medical College, Saroop Rani College and the Bargari sacrilege issue.
He said he had also brought neighbourhood-specific concerns to the Assembly by identifying individual streets and localities, claiming that this approach gave direct representation to issues faced by residents at the grassroots level.
Calls for clean politics and transparent administration
Outlining his future priorities, Singh said he would work with the people to formulate a strategy for ensuring clean politics and transparent administration in Punjab.
He reiterated that the state needed to move beyond what he described as “street-and-drain” and ribbon-cutting politics, and focus instead on challenges affecting its overall progress.
Thanking Amritsar residents once again, Singh said their cooperation and the blessings of the Almighty would be crucial in the collective effort to restore Punjab's position as a progressive and leading state.
“My only objective is ‘Punjab First’. Beyond this, I will have no personal interest,” he said in his message.
