Gurdaspur, April 4: The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President, Partap Singh Bajwa, today called upon the people to wipe out the autocratic, anti-people and dictatorial Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party ruling alliance from the map of Punjab forever by taking the first step in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. He said this was going to be decisive battle to shape the destiny of the people in the country by resolutely confronting the communal forces which could pose a grave threat to the secular social fabric of this great nation. Bajwa filed his nomination papers from the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha constituency here accompanied by thousands of his supporters and all the MLAs and other senior leaders from the region emitting out a strong signal that the party was all set for a repeat performance. His wife, Mrs. Charanjit Kaur Bajwa, MLA, filed her papers as his covering candidate. Bajwa is the sitting MP from Gurdaspur. Earlier in the morning, he paid obeisance at the Golden Temple at Amritsar where he was accompanied by his wife, his brother Fateh Jang Singh Bajwa and the party leader, Gurvinder Singh mamanke. Talking to the media persons, he pointed out the dangerous and dictatorial tendencies were already discernible in this election campaign with the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi projecting only self and not the party and all the slogans were centered round him. Bajwa, who had trounced BJP’s three time MP Vinod Khanna, the Bollywood actor, last time, said the people should ask this man from Mumbai as to where he was during the last five years as he never showed up after his defeat. “The people have a right to know where he was when gastro spread in Batala taking scores of lives. They have a right to know why did he not ever intervened to stop the day light loot of the natural resources in Pathankot. Sand mafia has been resorting to illegal sand mining in Gurdaspur and the amount involved is about Rs. 3000 croreâ€, he said. He questioned why despite having represented this constituency thrice, Khanna ditched Ranjit Sagar dam employees which falls in this constituency as about 4000 of them were issued marching orders. The people were full of anger against him, he added. The PPCC chief said when Punjab burned for more than a decade in the fires of terrorism, Khanna was nowhere to be seen. “My family fiercely confronted terrorism and my father sacrificed his life in this fightâ€, he said. He said the demand of the ex-servicemen for one-rank-one pension was vociferously taken up with the centre first by him and the party Vice-President, Rahul Gandhi, played a decisive role in its implementation. He said another big ticket project that was moved by him was Rs. 1000 crore Pathankot-Amritsar highway upgradation involving six by-passes. He strongly lambasted the Parkash Singh Badal government for scuttling major projects which the centre had approved at his initiative during the last five years. He said the Rs. 250 crore Qadian-Beas rail link failed to take off as the Badal government exhibited total indifference and did not allot land. The central university which was to be set up in this region was shifted to Ghudda by Badal near Bathinda. Similarly, the Badal government denied land for the setting up of a triple IIT. Bajwa said as a star campaigner of the party, he would campaign for four days in other constituencies in Punjab and where ever else the party high command deputed him. He claimed the Congress-PPP alliance in Punjab would deal a crushing defeat to the Akali Dal-BJP alliance. Other who were present included Smt. Charanjit Kaur Bajwa MLA Qadia, S. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa MLA Dera Baba Nanak, Smt. Aruna Chaudhary MLA Dina Nagar, S. Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa MLA Fatehgarh Churian, S.
