Dal Khalsa head H S Dhami
Chandigarh, April 5: Having a dig at the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, for preaching communal harmony and secularism to him, former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today remarked, “it is a classic example of devil quoting scripturesâ€. Reacting to Sukhbir’s charges that he was playing communal card, Capt Amarinder retorted, “if I am playing communal card let you prove your secular credentials by condemning the killing of 35000 innocent people during militancy in Punjabâ€. He reminded Sukhbir that while he was relishing and enjoying his life in the foreign countries his father and the current Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was presiding over a tragedy he had scripted for his own benefit, in Punjab. He told Sukhbir to ask his father, Badal, as why he attended the bhog ceremonies of the slain militants but never bothered to express sympathies to the militancy victims leave aside visiting their families. “And now you are talking and preaching communal harmony to me?†he remarked. Reiterating that Akalis and BJP were the most communal outfits which had come together for mere opportunism of sticking to power, he remarked, their “secular talk is just a paradoxâ€. He pointed out, the Akalis and BJP hardly agree on anything whether it be uniform civil code, the Article 370 of the Indian constitution, greater autonomy to the states, construction of the Operation Bluestar memorial to name just a few and yet they are in alliance with each other with a sole motive to stick to power. Exploding Sukhbir’s myth of development, he said, the state was on the verge of bankruptcy as the Reserve Bank of India had refused to provide overdraft to Punjab and the employees were waiting for salaries for last three months. “First time in the history a government in office had presented vote on account budget because it did not have moneyâ€, he pointed out. Referring to the infrastructure development in Amritsar, Capt Amarinder said, it was during his regime that flyovers like the direct corridor to the Golden Temple and other flyovers were constructed. “You tell me what you have done?†he asked. Ridiculing Sukhbir’s claims of providing City Bus Service in Amritsar, the senior Congress leader told him to better check his facts as these buses were launched with the funds provided by the Government of India under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNURM).
