Ferozepur, April 30 : The fate of 15 candidates in fray in Ferozepur – major political parties candidates among them – Sunil Kumar Jakhar, Congress, Sher Singh Ghubaya SAD-BJP, Satnampal Kamboj AAP, Bhai Dhyan Singh Mand SAD(A), Ram Kumar Prajapati BSP - have been locked in the EVMs today with peaceful completion of election process. The voters in the rural were seen more enthusiastic than in the urban areas. While it has become a prestige issue for certain supporters and leaders in the constituency, but it was difficult to read the minds of the people to predict the favourable wave towards the particular candidate among three in the top – Congress, SAD-BJP and AAP. Barring few incidents of war of words over small issues, late start of polling due to defect in EVMs, the polling in 9 Assembly Segments Ferozepur Lok Sabha Constituency over 1694 polling booths from 7 AM to 6 PM was peaceful with 70 per cent record polling. The voters using their right to franchise performed their moral duty. The first time votes were seen feeling encouraged when they were presented Appreciation Letter from Election Commission of India. There was however, resentment among the old voters whose names were deleted from the final list depriving them to cast their vote. Voting Percentage: The highest percentage of voting was in Jalalabad 79.14%, the Assembly segment of Sukhbir Singh Badal, Dy.CM and home place of Sher Singh Ghubaya, sAD-BJP candidate while the lowest was at Ferozepur 64% presently being represented byt Parminder Singh Pinki, Congress MLA. The voting percentage in 76-Ferozepur was 64%, 77-Ferozepur Rural 74.1%, 78-Guruharsahai 72.15%, 79-Jalalbad 79.14, 80-Fazilka 77.88%, 82-Abohar 67%, 83-Balluana 70.17%, 85-Malout 75.80% and 86-Muktsar 77.67%. Resentment among old voters: There was resentment among the old voters whose name stands deleted from the existing list because of certain discrepancies at the level of compilation of voter’s list. The case of Sanjeev Sharma and members of his family of Golden Enclave was noticed missing from the list of Ward No.15. Late start of polling due to defective in EVM : The polling at one booth No.116 in ITI for Boys was delayed by about 20 minutes due to defect in machine which was rectified with the help of other polling officials in the same complex. But it has definitely put a question mark on the dependability of the EVMs. Few Incidents : No doubt the polling in the district was peaceful but few incidents of violence, man-handling, injuring also came to notice. There was news when the situation became tense over a scuffle between two Congress supporters for motivating the voters to cast vote for a particular candidate, with slapping by the near one of Congress MLA on the former Municipal Councilor. In another incident, outside the booth No.137-38, Dev Samaj College for Women, BJP councilor was seen motivating the voters and not only this, about dozen a children were sent with flags speaking slogans in favour of BJP. In one more such incident, in Guruharsahai constituency, there was a minor between Akali and Congress workers in village Nidhana in which two persons were injured and had to be admitted in the hospital. In Makhu consitiency, a news of stopping of polling process for about half an hour has also been noticed when a dispute arose between Akali and Congress leaders and workers and stones were thrown over each other and removing of turban even. However, with the intervention of district administration, the situation was controlled. Thanks : Manjit Singh Narang, RO-Cum-DC Ferozepur has thanked all for peaceful completion of election process in all the constituencies of Ferozepur Lok Sabha.
