Meeting of DCs & SSPs at Jalandhar
Jalandhar, 10 September 2016: Election Commissioner of India, A.K Joti held review meetings with District Election Officers and Senior Police Officers on Saturday in Jalandhar. The State and the District Level Election Machinery is geared up for Election preparedness in Punjab. Electoral Rolls are foundation for holding of free and fair Elections. Hence there is complete focus of ECI at the moment to achieve error free electoral roll.
Draft Roll of Punjab State has been published on 7th September. Claims and Objections will be obtained till 7th October and after verification final roll will be published on 2nd January, 2017.
Punjab has a projected current population of 2.95 Crore and 1.92 Crore Voter. Out of that there are 1.01 Crore Male Voter and 90.5 Lakhs Female Voters. There are only 273 from Third Gender.
Elector Population Ratio for Punjab is 651 and our roll has Gender ratio of 891. Punjab Has 100% EPIC Cards in its electoral roll.
Punjab has 22600 Polling Stations at 14354 Locations. All polling station have been set keeping maximum voter as 1400 for urban and 1200 for rural areas. During the NERP-2016 programme 580 new polling stations have been sanctioned.
Appreciates work of the DCs
ECI A.K Joti briefed “We want to provide assured minimum facilities to voters at these polling stations. Electricity, Drinking Water, Furniture, Toilets are available in all PS in Punjab. Ramps have been provided in all polling stations for specially abled voters”. Appreciating the work of the DCs, A.K Joti said “I am proud to say that Punjab State has provided 100% Assured Minimum facility to voters at its polling stations”.
ECI has been stressing for cleaning up of e rolls by removing absent, dead and shifted voters. During 2015 a special drive was launched to link Aadhar to names in electoral roll. It is heartening to note that 85% names in Punjab’s roll have Aadhar, Number.
Names of person with disability are being obtained part wise of the Electoral Roll and proper arrangement would be made for their facilitation during voting. Poll official are being sensitized regarding PWD persons with disability voters.
List of deleted names will be put on CEO website AC -wise and part wise. A printed list will be delivered to all the recognized political parties at the level of EROs.
Approximately 1.5 Lakh people will be deployed for organising elections including Micro Observer & District Level Nodal Teams
Same number of police officials will be deployed for security purposes. Election is a huge manpower exercise and Training is very important component.
To motivate such a large number of people for best performance as per law and expectation of Election commission of India there is need to train them properly.
