Listing auction
By Gurbir Singh, Hamilton (New Zealand),27 March,2018:
Last Saturday’s Australian captain’s ball-tampering controversy in the third test against South Africa has outraged the cricketing world and the damaging fallout would have far reaching consequences for their team.
Kiwis (as New Zealanders are fondly known), would not let this opportunity to poke fun at their ‘across the ditch’ friendly neighbour, go without their usual wit.
A smart, Wellington resident, found a ‘glib way of capitalizing’ on the Steve Smith bandwagon scandal and his sale listing of an ‘Australian sports tape’ on New Zealand’s top online auction website has attracted worldwide attention.
The listing on website, Trade Me, appears to be poking fun at the ball tampering player, and calls upon buyers to grab the tape “before Steve Smith buys it all”.
“Perfect for cheating in every form of the game this Australian sports tape will get the ball swinging in everything from BYC to test matches.
“60 grit - I may be able to get other grades.
“Get in quick before Steve Smith buys it all up!
“Not sure if this is the exact brand used by Cameron Bancroft but I've been assured it'll do the same job.”
At the time of writing, the listing had already been viewed 98,550 times in the past two days, 526 people had added it to their watchlist and bid had reached $23 from 31 bidders. Auction closes on 1st April.
