Chandigarh, January 29, 2022: Senior Punjabi journalist and recipient of Shiromani Patrakar Puraskar, Kamaljit Singh Banwait released his 8th book, a collection of 27 short stories, titled "Rabb da Banda" today.
Environmentalist Balbir Singh Seechewal was the chief guest who while congratulating the author criticized governments for not actively working to save the environment.
Banwait said that the book has been largely written in isolation when he encountered COVID in May 2020. Hence, many stories revolve around the hardships of people caused by the pandemic and also reflect his agony for the farmer's movement which was at its peak at the time.
Ex-IAS Kahan Singh Pannu, Vice-Chancellor of Rayat-Bahra University, Prof Parvinder Singh, and Prabh Aasra founder Shamsher Singh were the special guests. Journalist Deepak Charnarthal was the anchor for the event.
Pannu said that this book hopes from the public at large that it will come forward itself and resolve the issues that plague it.
"Our leaders have not yet started to move from feudal values towards constitutional values, which is why politics is all about the individual. This is happening at a time when our democratic institutions are eroding" said Pannu.
Prof Parvinder Singh said that Banwait's writing just like his journalism is focused on people and their issues, which is highly commendable.
Shamsher Singh said that the human inside us all is weakening but Banwait's writing is a message to keep humanity and truth alive.
Writer Manmohan Singh Daon while praising Banwait's efforts to take up writing along with journalism called it "author's masterpiece".
Writer Jagdeep Noorani said that the book was very timely as it included stories on how COVID has affected the world and the impact of the farmer's protest on society.
She added that multiple stories touched various important issues of modern life of those that have moved to cities from Punjab's villages.
