Renowned Punjabi Writer Dr. Harbans Singh Dhiman passes away after succumbing to injuries

Chandigarh, June 24, 2026: Renowned Punjabi writer, scholar and transcriber Dr. Harbans Singh Dhiman passed away on Tuesday night after succumbing to injuries sustained in a road accident last week.
Dr. Dhiman was widely respected in literary and academic circles for his contributions to Punjabi literature and his work as a transcriber and researcher. His demise has left the literary fraternity and admirers across Punjab mourning the loss of a distinguished intellectual.
According to family sources, Dr. Dhiman had met with an accident a few days ago and was undergoing treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries late Tuesday night.
His cremation, initially scheduled for 4 pm on Wednesday, was delayed due to post-mortem formalities.
Tributes have begun pouring in from writers, scholars and members of the literary community, who remembered Dr. Dhiman for his valuable contribution to Punjabi language, literature and culture.
