PAU holds drive to make campus plastic free & green

Ludhiana, June 6, 2023: The Department of Forestry and Natural Resources in collaboration with the National Social Service (NSS) Unit organized a plastic-free campus drive and tree plantation drive at PAU campus to mark World Environment Day.
Dr SS Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, who was the chief guest, said that the Punjab Agricultural University has completed its 60 years and this year was being celebrated as Diamond Jubilee Year.
“PAU campus is lungs of Ludhiana city and our institution always works for the betterment of society. In this context, various clean and green drives are going on in the University premises,” he added.
“Plastic is dangerous not only for humans but for everyone in terms of environmental pollution, human health hazards, and other detrimental impacts. In our university, we are continuously working on the management of plastic so that its ill effects can be reduced,” he observed.
The NSS coordinators including Drs Harpreet Singh, Kaushik Mandal, Divya Utreja, Manjot Kaur, and Kamaldeep Kaur, led by their in-charge Dr HS Saralch, distributed gloves and polythene bags to around 500 NSS volunteers.
Committed and dedicated volunteers walked around different parts of campus and collected plastic waste.
Dr Nirmal Jaura, Director Students’ Welfare; Dr RIS Gill, Estate Officer; Dr GPS Dhillon, Head, the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources; Dr Parminder Singh, Head, Department of Floriculture and Landscaping; Dr Vishal Bector, Associate Director (Institutional Linkages); and Dr Ranjit Singh, Landscape Officer participated in the plantation drive where trees of Casuarina and Lagerstroemia were planted in an open area.
