Language Dept takes initiative to promote reading habit through ‘Book Donation-Greatest Donation’ campaign
Ferozepur, November 13, 2025: The Language Department has taken the initiative to promote reading habit through ‘Book Donation-Greatest Donation’ campaign.
The ‘Pustak Daan Maha Daan’ (Book Donation-Greatest Donation) campaign launched by the District Language Officer, Ferozepur, Dr. Jagdeep Singh Sandhu, is gaining strong positive response from the public. Highlighting the importance of books in human life, Dr. Sandhu said that books have always been a source of knowledge and play a vital role in shaping a person’s character and cultural understanding. While many people purchase books and leave them unused on their shelves, numerous rural libraries struggle due to a lack of resources. This campaign aims to bridge that gap by sending donated books from homes to these rural libraries.
Dr. Sandhu said the initiative began on Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Parkash Purab, as Guru Sahib connected humanity through the divine Word, and the campaign is dedicated to the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. Books collected under this campaign will be distributed to needy rural libraries through the District Language Offices of Ferozepur and Tarn Taran, with proper records maintained for each donation and distribution.
He added that the campaign has started in both Ferozepur and Tarn Taran districts. Residents of Ferozepur can contact Chetan Kumar (Clerk) at 90411-10786, and those in Tarn Taran can contact Vinod Kumar (Clerk) at 62396-33573 to donate books. Both officials, along with Ravi Kumar, are providing special support for the campaign. Dr. Sandhu personally inaugurated the initiative by donating 20 books from his private library to the Anglo Sikh War Memorial Library, Mudki, managed by Jagtar Singh Sokhi.
The campaign gained further momentum when the District Public Relations Office, Ferozepur, contributed around 400 books to support the cause and encourage youth to draw inspiration from reading.
Dr. Sandhu urged all readers, students, officials, writers, and scholars to participate actively by donating books. He added that the campaign will continue on a regular basis, ensuring that all donated books reach under-resourced rural libraries which will promote reading habit.
