Big Breaking: ED Summons Former Punjab Chief Secretary; Appearance Scheduled for August 31
Jalandhar, August 25, 2026: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has stepped up its investigation into the alleged scam involving Suntec City and Altus Space Builders Private Limited, summoning former Punjab Chief Secretary Anurag Verma to appear before the agency on August 31.
According to a report in The Tribune, IAS officer Kanwal Preet Brar has also been re-summoned and asked to appear at the ED’s zonal office in Jalandhar on August 27 in connection with the case.
Brar had earlier appeared before the ED on August 18. He has now been directed to bring additional documents related to the investigation. Anurag Verma, meanwhile, will appear before the agency for the first time. He is currently serving as Additional Chief Secretary, Revenue Department. At the time of the alleged irregularities, he was heading the Housing and Urban Development Department.
The ED is examining whether rules were violated while allegedly changing land use and making unauthorised alterations to the layout, and whether these changes benefited private builders.
The investigation also covers the transfer of group housing sites in the Muirwoods Ecocity project and the action taken in the Suntec City case under provisions of the Punjab Regional and Town Planning and Development Act.
The agency is also examining changes made to the relevant policy in 2022 and their possible implications in the alleged irregularities.
