In his first public appearance since surviving a devastating assassination attempt in Nanded, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal paid obeisance at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib today. The visit was a gesture of thanksgiving for his recovery and a powerful statement of resilience in the face of political violence.
Accompanied by his wife, Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal, and senior party leadership, Sukhbir Badal was greeted by thousands of enthusiastic SAD workers who had gathered in solidarity. The atmosphere was charged with emotion as supporters raised slogans pledging their unwavering support to the SAD president and the party's commitment to peace and communal harmony.
Damdama Sahib Jathedar Baba Tek Singh performed the 'ardas' (prayer) on the occasion and presented Mr. Badal with a 'siropa' (robe of honor).
In a stirring address to the gathered crowd, Sukhbir Badal gave a clarion call to save Punjab from anti-Punjab forces who seek to destroy peace and communal harmony. "We will never allow Punjab's peace to be destroyed at any cost," he declared. "It is our mission to ensure all religions are respected in Punjab and we will continue to work towards ensuring brotherhood among all as well as the welfare of Punjabis."
He also emphasized the SAD's long history of sacrifice and its commitment to the cause of the Khalsa Panth. "Ours is a 105-year-old party which has always fought against tyranny," he said. "We have always rallied to the cause of the poor and the farmers. I want to make it clear that I have followed these ideals as President of the SAD and will never compromise on them."
Badal expressed his deep gratitude to Waheguru for protecting him during the attack in Nanded and thanked the countless people who prayed for his recovery. He said that while he had sought blessings for himself, he had also prayed for the return of prosperity in Punjab.
Speaking to reporters, Harsimrat Kaur Badal disclosed that the SAD president had returned to Punjab after his stitches were removed and a plaster was placed on his arm to heal a bone injury sustained in the attack. She also thanked everyone who had reached out with good wishes, including those from other political parties.
The visit to Takht Sri Damdama Sahib was a significant moment for the SAD and its supporters. It demonstrated Sukhbir Badal's determination to continue leading the party despite the challenges he has faced and reinforced the SAD's commitment to upholding the values of peace, communal harmony, and social justice.
